Near Bruges, in an ancient agricultural landscape, we found the place of our dreams: an old farmhouse from 1900. Next to endless fields and an elegant lane overlooking that vast ‘scenic valuable agricultural area’. So green everywhere, as far as you can see. Ruben started to renovate the house, Liesbeth landscaped the vegetable garden and our three teenagers chill in the wild garden or take border collie Achiel out for a walk.
B&B near Bruges
In the former horse stable, we created two special and ground-floor guest rooms: Bengel (2 persons) and Joekel (2 adults and 2 children). Each blessed with its own private terrace with a view where you can enjoy the most beautiful sunsets. You can also relax on the shared terrace where you catch the morning sun, take an idyllic swing in the lane or relax in that wild garden, with a view on the hopping sheep. You might even bump into Liesbeth as she inspects the vegetable garden.
Egypte in Oedelem
Our street, Egypt Street, owes its name to gypsies who roamed here in the 19th century and set up camp at the foot of Oedelemberg. Because of their dark skin and black hair, locals thought these foreigners came from Egypt. So you immediately know why we named our B&B the Gitane.
Local delicacies
In the bright breakfast room, you eat far too much in the morning because Liesbeth’s home made foods are super delicious. From chocolate spread and jam with fruit from the garden to yoghurt, granola and fruit salad. And if you look really sweet, she might even bake her famous sultana cakes. We buy fresh cheeses at the Bruges market, preferably from small, local producers. A handy honesty bar and a small kitchenette where you can also make your own tea or coffee await you in the same breakfast room.
About us
We are ‘just’ Liesbeth and Ruben. Born and raised in Bruges. The need for peace, greenery and space eventually brought us to the countryside of Oedelem. We have a heart for nature and thoroughly enjoy the place where we live. We enjoy sharing our paradise in the middle of the fields. Ruben renovated the whole place, Liesbeth loves cooking, vegetable gardening, vintage spotting and pot turning and all these hobbies come together in De Gitane.
Good to know, Liesbeth learns sign language. So the deaf and hard of hearing are very welcome, so she can practice a bit more!
